The Four Phases of a Capital Campaign

PHASE I

CREATE THE VISION…. WE BELIEVE
  • Parish/mission goes through planning process to discern vision components
  • Vision and mission statements are formed
  • Church committees review and endorse statements

PHASE II

LIVE INTO THE VISION…. WE COMMIT
  • People participate in discussions about the vision
  • Ministry groups identify how it impacts their work
  • A plan for accomplishing the mission is developed
  • Projects whose funding will implement the mission are identified
  • Parish/mission leadership prioritizes possible projects
  • Parish/mission resolution authorizes the capital campaign

PHASE III

FUND THE VISION … WE INVITE
  • Steering committee is assembled
  • A giver database develops along with gratitude and record-keeping systems
  • Potential witness givers identified
  • Informational and spiritual materials developed
  • Servant leaders recruited and organized
  • Gifts for the capital campaign are invited for the first time

PHASE IV

CONTINUE THE VISION … WE LIVE BY GRACE
  • Goals are reached and funding for projects is realized
  • The mission plan is being carried out
  • Goals and strategic plans are reevaluated and adjusted if necessary
  • The campaign is concluded with a celebration
  • A legacy stewardship (planned giving) program is in place for the future
