Uganda

The Diocese of West Texas formed a partnership with the Ugandan Diocese of Nebbi in 1998.  The goal of the partnership is to maintain an on-going relationship between the people of the two dioceses with exchange of personnel and ideas.  In all ways, we seek to find ways to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to implement initiatives which may empower individuals to live more productive lives.

Education

Nebbi Women's Center, Uganda
  • The Center will be completed in November 2004. It includes two administrative buildings with classrooms, library, offices with workrooms, a kitchen/dining hall, two dormitories, and an auditorium. The Center provides a much-needed place for women to come for education, business training, and fellowship. The Center will be open to all women in the region.
  • Donations should be made to The Diocese of West Texas to be used to support the ongoing programs of education at the Center.

High School Scholarships for Children of Nebbi Clergy and Seminarians
  • All high schools in Nebbi are boarding schools because of lack of transportation.
  • The tuition is $450 per year, and donors are asked to make a four-year commitment if possible. One-time gifts are welcome.
  • Donations should be made to The Diocese of West Texas and marked Nebbi Scholarships.

Micro-business

Revolving Bank Fund to help Nebbi women start micro-businesses
  • The Diocese of West Texas has funded a revolving bank program for the women of Nebbi with $20,000.  The diocese helped the women form a Bank Board with financial advisors who lend money to individuals to start businesses.
  • The women repay the bank with interest from their profits.
  • Donations should be made to The Diocese of West Texas to help build the capital base of the bank.

Women's Tapestry Ministry
  • A tapestry group from West Texas designs and teaches women at the Nebbi Women's Center how to make attractive and salable wall hangings.  The tapestry group markets these wall hangings and returns the money to the women who made them.
