The Four Phases of a Capital Campaign
PHASE I
CREATE THE VISION…. WE BELIEVE
- Parish/mission goes through planning process to discern vision components
- Vision and mission statements are formed
- Church committees review and endorse statements
PHASE II
LIVE INTO THE VISION…. WE COMMIT
- People participate in discussions about the vision
- Ministry groups identify how it impacts their work
- A plan for accomplishing the mission is developed
- Projects whose funding will implement the mission are identified
- Parish/mission leadership prioritizes possible projects
- Parish/mission resolution authorizes the capital campaign
PHASE III
FUND THE VISION … WE INVITE
- Steering committee is assembled
- A giver database develops along with gratitude and record-keeping systems
- Potential witness givers identified
- Informational and spiritual materials developed
- Servant leaders recruited and organized
- Gifts for the capital campaign are invited for the first time
PHASE IV
CONTINUE THE VISION … WE LIVE BY GRACE
- Goals are reached and funding for projects is realized
- The mission plan is being carried out
- Goals and strategic plans are reevaluated and adjusted if necessary
- The campaign is concluded with a celebration
- A legacy stewardship (planned giving) program is in place for the future
